Wild Continuity
I was thinking about tributes -- physical, emotional, intangible ones -- and decided to create a quilted shrine, a thing to ensure permanence.  Each portrait is an individual quilt appliquéd onto a setting of quilted satin, except for Erma Franklin who, as anchor, is pieced into the backdrop.  These are singing women, our monumental story-tellers in song, our link to the beginnings of it, the wail, the moan, the shout.  They are wild women, and embroidered lettering describes wild as unfettered, fantastic, eager, unrestrained, limitless, natural, free purveyors of excitement and strong emotion.
