BEADS, BOTTLES, DOLLS
Hill House Collaborative
The Sojourner House

September 2006 - January 2007
The dolls created in this workshop were inspired by and pay homage to Kongo Minkisi (plural), Nkisi (singular), and Haitian Paket Kongo
Beads, Bottles and Dolls shows, through recycling, how damaged items (lives) can be re-created.
Beads, Bottles and Dolls centers on creation as empowerment, not looking back, but creating from where we are, moving forward.  The re-creation of life.  Participants use plastic bottles, fabric and beads to create dolls (empowerment vessels) filled with messages, signposts and reminders to each individual creator based on personal goals and objectives.
