SELECTED RESIDENCIES

ARTIST STATEMENT:
I love the feel and smell of fabric and use contemporary as well as old velvets, satin and taffetas
that  I've managed to free from antique and second-hand shops. This commingling of eras brings a
certain character to a project. Inspiration comes from nature, the certain turn of a leaf, the smell of
freshly mowed grass or lightning flashing across a dark sky in a thunderstorm. Dreams and visions
play a key role as well. These components are incorporated into my residencies and participants
become acquainted with and learn to feel comfortable in their own creativity. Through the
residency experience, participants come to understand that unleashing their creativity equals
fulfillment, satisfaction, and balance.

WORKSHOPS:
Reflections of Our Spirit: a collaborative quilt that incorporates participants' individual quilt
squares.  Techniques:  hand-painted fabric, beadwork, embroidery, teamwork, creative writing.
Length: minimum of 13 days.
4th grade through senior and special populations.

Quilting in Self-Portrait. The lines and subtle nuances of our face capture the essence of our
spirit.  Through creative writing, stories, journaling and quilting, the portrait becomes a memory
vessel as we celebrate challenges and victory.
This workshop requires the use of personal sewing machines.
Adults only.

Magic Letter Box: a receptacle for hopes and dreams.  Participants decoupage a magic box with
fabric, lace, feathers, ribbon, beads, sequins, buttons, glitter, sweet smelling herbs and found and
personal objects.  Through writing exercises about layering, participants compose prose and
poems.  Dreams become realities and writing becomes a natural phenomenon to affirm the
expansion of creative power.
4th grade through senior.
